This was my first twitch for quite some time. To be honest I had put my bins down for a couple of years but coming out of Covid 19 has sparked my birding mojo back into full swing. The last Roller I had seen in the UK was at Boxhead Common in 2013 and though I was delighted to see that bird, it was at distance and a short window of viewing. This bird, however, was completely different and though the road trip was brutal, the end result was amazing with crippling views of this wonderful bird.
The following day I traveled down to Hickling Broad and connected with another rarity - Collared Pratincole! This bird put on a real show, flying around its audience at least 5 or 6 times whilst I was there. Other species here included Black-winged Stilt, Ruff, Green Sandpiper, Wood Sandpiper, Avocet and a wonderful look at Swallow-tailed Butterfly.
En-route back home a stop at Cavenham Heath National Nature Reserve in Suffolk produced good looks at 3 Stone Curlew.
