Ferruginous Duck

Ferruginous Duck (foreground) and Pochard

This adult male Ferruginous Duck was originally found by Mark Thomas at the Priory County Park in Bedfordshire. About 70% of these birds found in the UK are hybrids, (Pochard) however, this individual shows all the characteristics of a pure breed and genuine vagrant. Today the bird was close to shore, associating, but not necessarily accepted (see video) with a group of Pochard. I found out about this bird through Rare Bird Alert.
